You are invited to follow an on-going fieldtest of TV via a broadband network (IP-TV) in the KistaIP student housing area.

A demonstration will show IP-TV and some of the features of the set-top box, such as VoD (Video on Demand). You have the opportunity to se the picture quality of broadcasts and experience the interface of the set-top box.

Overview of how this works

One of the goals for this consumer products is to be user friendly. Basically, it should just be to plug in the set-top box to the TV and network.

At power up, the box requests an IP address from a DHCP server.

The set-top box recieves the video broadcasts by multicast transmission. Other features, like surfing the Internet from the TV is using regular unicast.
